Celebrations
SJR celebrated it 80th Anniversary in 2008.  To mark this special occasion we organised a series of events for both the members of the Church and for the local community.

This was a time both to look back at the achievements of the past 80 years and to look ahead to the future of our community.
Special services
A number of special services marked this event, culminating in an Anniversary Service on 12th October 2008 at which Tom Stuckey came to preach.  Tom Stuckey is former president of the Methodist Conference and former Chair of the Southampton District.
Concert - “After The Rain” and Friends
Saturday October 18th 2008 at SJR saw an evening of contemporary Christian and Secular music performed by:
After The Rain
All About a Fisherman (our exciting new band of teenagers from SJR)
Brian Hooper, Nigel Bailey, Emma Bailey and various combinations thereof!
Proceeds to SCRATCH

Community Barbeque
SJR invited members of our local community to a free Barbeque.  1000 leaflets were delivered to nearby properties and we hoped that many of our neighbours would be able to join us for a memorable afternoon.
The Barbeque took place on Saturday 12th July 2008, from 5.00 to 7.00 p.m.

Flower Festival
A very special celebration of the life of St James Road through the media of floral displays.
This was a wonderful display and many pcitures can be seen in our gallery of photos taken by some of the church's budding photographers.

Sports and Fun Day
An amazing afternoon of sports, games, fun and a cream tea took place on 14th June 2008.  Despite a gloomy forecast, the weather held off so that we could enjoy such diverse entertainment as:
  • Indoor cricket
  • Juggling
  • Wii tennis
  • Scrabble and board games
  • Dance mat
  • Sumo Wrestling!
Our members particularly enjoyed the rare sight of our minister dressed as a sumo wrestler and showing no shortage of competitive spirit!
