New Web Site!
If you're reading this (and you must be!) then this may seem to be an unnecessary news item.
However, the redevelopment of the web site is just one of many new steps we need to take in our church, to make sure that we are keeping up with the community we serve.
Content
A web site is nothing without content. Don't just leave it to the editor/webmaster. It's YOUR church web site and will only be as useful as YOU make it.
If you have an idea then contact Nigel Bailey with the details.
Why do we need a Web Site?
The world around us is, increasingly, an online world. Shopping, news, TV, personal communication and entertainment are all now an established part of daily life on the internet.
An organisation that does not recognise this simple fact is closing its doors to a community that is finding new ways of living and participating in discussion, debate and engaging in issues that really matter.
Rent Deposit Scheme
Our fund raising target for the Rent Deposit scheme has now been comfortably exceeded. We are continuing to raise fund for this valuable project.
The latest event was the Quiz and Supper which took place on Saturday 11th OCtober at SJR. Hall A was full and we had a great evening.
Please visit the scheme's web site if you would like to find out more.

Boys Brigade Presidents Commendations
Four boys from the 4th Southampton Boys’ Brigade Company (St James Road Methodist Church) have been awarded Brigade Presidents Commendations. These awards are rarely given and only when, in the opinion of the Brigade President Professor Sir Kenneth Calman KCB, a boy, or group of boys, have done something special outside of the normal BB
programme.
The four boys and two instructors from the 4th were out canoeing on the River Itchen between Woodmill and Cobden Bridge. The boys were out in front of the group when they spotted three young children in a rubber dinghy drifting down the river. The children were not in control of the boat which was being blown downstream by the wind. Some distance behind the boat was a man who was trying to swim after it but the wind was blowing it faster than he could swim.
With no prompting form their instructors, the boys went immediately to the rescue. They stopped the boat drifting and gave assistance to the swimmer. They then brought them to the nearest point on the shore by which time the children were becoming distressed and the swimmer getting exhausted. Once the man and children were safely on shore the canoeists towed the boat back upstream to where it had come from.
Whilst the canoeists themselves were in no danger at all, their prompt action may well have prevented a more serious situation developing.
The awards were presented to Ben Doswell, Peter Hart, Stephen Ketteringham and Nathan Hack at the Company Church Parade held on Remembrance Day. The presentations were made on behalf of the Brigade President by Mr Roy Chandler, Pastoral Chairman of the South West Hants Battalion of The Boys’ Brigade.

The month of November 2009 saw Nigel Bailey growing a whole new look in aid of the Prostate Cancer Charity. For those not in the know, the Movember Foundation was established to raise awareness of men's health issues - in particular that of Prostate Cancer. The foundation supports The Prostate Cancer Charity through it's fund-raising efforts. These centre around men (MO-Bros) from all over the world growing a Mo in the month of Movember.
It has been something of an eye-opener, with quite a number of people sharing with me their own experiences of how they have been affected by this disease.
Rather than simply grow a Mo, I decided to publish a picture each day of the progress. These became increasingly extravagant affairs of the type you can see below. I think this is called "making a rod for your own back"!

If you would like to see the whole set of pictures, these can best be viewed on my photographic business website at Reflect Photography.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all the support.
